Lou Gehrig a baseball hall of famer who holds the record for most grand slams was fondly called as the Iron Horse. Unfortunately, Mr Gehrig's stellar baseball career was disrupted due to a condition called as motor neuron disease. This condition affects certain special nerves in spinal cord and brain which are responsible for activity of different muscles in human body. What is striking about Lou Gehrig is even after the diagnosis of motor neuron disease, he tried to remain active and devoted himself to public service. He was sucn an icon that the condition of motor neuron disease in medical world is also referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Why do I write about him today?
One of my medical school colleague is also diagnosed with motor neuron disease and she too like Lou Gehrig is not only undefeated by the condition but is also helping other patients with this condition and their families in India. Check this website for further information on her striking efforts.... http://ashaekhope.com. She is truly an Iron Horse.
